Don't miss Matt Davis Foundation Fundraiser Event Saturday at Crenshaw when #1 R-MC plays Christopher Newport!

Randolph-Macon College is partnering with a local foundation for the second year in a row to help raise money for one of their own.

When the Yellow Jackets host Christopher Newport on January 9, 2010 at 4 p.m. a portion of all ticket sales will benefit the Matt Davis Foundation, which was established in memory of the 1991 R-MC graduate.

In addition, a raffle will be conducted with the winner receiving two tickets to anywhere in the continental United States courtesy of AirTran Airways. A post game reception will also be hosted for those in attendance.

Last year’s basketball game raised approximately $2,500 for the foundation, whose primary goal is to endow a scholarship at Douglas Freeman High School in Richmond, VA, Matt’s alma mater.

In the past, funds have also been donated to other educational institutions as well as organizations that assist in the care and comfort of cancer patients and their families.

“We are thankful that Randolph-Macon has agreed to help us out again this year and we hope to build on the success we had a year ago with our first event,” said Andrew Price, ’04, Matt’s brother and chairman of the foundation’s board of directors. “We hope that the event helps bring people to Randolph-Macon that have never been before and also help raise awareness of the foundation for those that may never have known Matt.”

Davis played basketball and baseball during his tenure at R-MC and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

He passed away on December 29, 1995 after a six month battle with a brain tumor. Shortly after his death, his family created the foundation in his memory.
